Inspired by Nicola Adams? Join Boxing Belles

Boxing is one of the fastest growing participatory women’s sports in the UK. And if you watched Nicola Adams dancing around the ring in the Olympics on the way to gold, you know just how fit and in shape it can get you.  And the fact that boxing really isn’t about hitting people, but an art that requires agility, skilly, and co-ordination to avoid being hit and spot the gaps.

Muhammad D’Ali famously said of boxing, ‘Float like a feather,  sting like a bee.’

He might have been referring to how you dance around the ring, but it refers equally to how boxing helps lift your mood, while burning lots of calories so you feel feather light in more ways that one.

Our present Boxing Belles four week camp ends on August 16th but don’t miss your chance to channel your Olympic inspiration, with our next camp starting Tues September 4th and finishing Sept 27th.

The classes run every Tues and Thursday and are a combination of boxing, coached by our professonial boxing coach Lloyd Ellet and kettlebells with Fitbitch coach Kate Boys.

OUr camps are women only and our prices are higher than some camps because we only accept 14 women. This is not just about running around and getting sweaty, but correct technique, expert tutition and giving you the kind of personal one-to-one experience that only comes with small groups.

Not to mention the fact that it is loads of fun.

Prices: £80 for a full camp, or £49 for four sessions used across the camp (graduates only may book single sessions). It takes place on the lawns adjacent to Hove Street South. To book click here

Lloyd doing his best impression of Raging Bull

Love boxing and know how valuable kettlebells are in shaping your body? Then you will LOVE our brand new evening camps.

Just twice a week, Tuesday and Thursday at 7.30pm, this camp is all about boxing and the bells.

We are excited to announce we have the fantastic, professional boxer, Lloyd Ellet on board to take our boxing sessions (he will also be dropping in our morning camps).

Lloyd is both brain and brawn, having done a Msc in Sport Science and Exercise Physiology and currently competes in the ring. If that isn’t enough he also teaches at a school for kids with challenging behaviours.

He has coached FitBitch founder, Rachael Woolston, who has been taken classes with former WBA Heavy weight, David Haye and she rates Lloyd highly for is approachable, fun way of coaching and his expertise.

At FitBitch, we only employ the very best. And in line with our morning camps, we will only be allowing 14 women in each boxing belles session in order to ensure each woman receives personalised, expert instruction.

This helps create the greatest change and is better for you and your understanding of exercise.

The only difference between this and our morning camps is that there will be no personalised homework at weekends, nor pre and post assessments. It will be just our usual dose of unadulterated, endorphin rocket fuel.

Start on day one, and the camp will build and progress throughout the four weeks, developing your boxing and conditioning.

Can’t commit to twice a week? Drop ins are available for graduates and for those new to FitBitch but you must take  a 90 minute master class which will go through the boxing moves and kettlebell movements first.

We require you to do this master class first (only if you are dropping in, if doing the full camp you don’t need to do this), to ensure you can do the exercises correctly without injury, and to make sure the rest of the class is not held up while exercises are taught to new people.

Fitbitch creates physical change. But it is much more than this. It makes you feel great and fundamentally changes your view of what you can achieve.

Come and find out for yourself. Click the link below to book. If you are interested in drop in (£12) and the master classes (£20) email with the subject title Boxing Belles.

Our four week camp dates for Boxing Belles will run as follows, costing £80 for the four weeks. And for the next two weeks only, we are offering two camps for £130 – you must tell us the months you are doing when you book. Get this while you can as these camps will sell out.**

26th June – 19th July

27th July – 16th August

21st August – 13th September

17th September – 11th October

** No refunds are given on camps once booked,  nor can sessions be transferred or carried over.

Hollywood’s FitBitches: Scarlett Johannson

April 23, 2012 at 4:00

Shaping up fast takes work

Make no mistake about it, when a Hollywood star needs to get in shape for a movie part, it requires a serious amount of work.

How much are we talking about here? Olympic athlete style-training, but in a short amount of time with the leanest, protein specific eating plan.

And Scarlett Johannson, makes no bones about the fact that it took a lot of hard, dedicated work to get in shape for her role as the Black Widow in Avengers Assemble.

‘It was many, many hours, days, and months of stunt training and strength training, but it’s fun because I had a goal,’ she explained. ‘That goal was the Lycra catsuit.’

So, how did the 31-year old actress do it? With the help of her personal trainer, Bobby Strom, a former New York police officer who has also worked with Jennifer Lopez and Jessica Biel.

We tracked him down to get some exclusive tips on how he helped get Scarlett in shape.

‘No workout was ever exactly the same because I didn’t want her to get bored,’ he explains. ‘I was having her do a lot of balance, coordination, and core work, but she really loved the strength work, like pull ups and the idea of feeling and looking strong.’

Just as important for preventing boredom, varying workouts also shocks the body into adapting to a new stress, working the musucles in different ways to create fast, more visible change.

Although exercising alone is not enough to create figure shaping change alone.  Whilst confessing to a ‘liking for grilled cheese sandwich as much as the next person,’ Scarlett admits that she stuck to a balanced, healthy diet of lean protein and slow energy releasing carbohydrates.

‘There is no magic wand to wave over oneself to look good in a latex catsuit,’ she explains. ‘Eating healthy and getting fit is about commitment, determination, consistency and the dedication to self-preservation.’

Sounds like a FitBitch way of thinking.

If you want to find out some of the exercises that Bobby did with Scarlett to get her into shape, then don’t miss our Hollywood Bikini Bodies Weekend Camp, 28th-29th April, 12-13th May, or 30th May-1st June, £150.

Simple Running Tips, WildFitness

Run like you skip

Ever felt tired in a run, and began to shuffle your feet? Or are you the type of runner who always feels unfit, and slothlike as others bound past like a gazelle?

The answer to improving your running technique and performance could be as simple as increasing your foot strike, according to Colin Holding, a coach with the innovative fitness company, Wild Fitness

Try this simple technique.

First, jump slowly up and down, heels coming to the floor much the same way as you may run normally. Do this for five minutes and note how it affects your posture and energy output.

Do you lean forward? Do your shoulders round? Nine times out of ten, they will.

Now, try jumping on the spot a bit faster for five minutes.

It is amazing how it affects your foot fall and how little energy is used up by actually increasing your pace. And, you are more likely to be landing on your mid foot, which means more efficient running.

FitBitch Running Coach, Rachael Woolston, is a former 400metre school champion and competes in road and adventure races. She has done workshops with Barefoot Ted, and interviewed some of the world’s formost running technique coaches including Lee Saxby.

She runs regular week long running schools for men and women. The next school starts January 30th, 6am for women only, 7am for men and women, 7pm women only. She and the rest of the FitBitch coaches are also available for one-to-one training for both men and women.
