Consistency is key

Want to lose weight, get fit or achieve a PB? The most important thing is consistency

At Fitbitch, we’ve been coaching women for over seven years of all different ages, fitness backgrounds and goals; some want to lose weight, others to run their first 5km and still others who want to achieve a PB marathon. Add to that my experience as a journalist, interviewing women about health, fitness and weight-loss and the common behavioural trait as to why goals are NOT reached is, what I call, the ‘scatter-gun’ approach.

It’s not difficult to see why, as women, we tend to approach exercise, dieting and fitness in this way. We are often juggling careers, family, relationships and busy social lives and so we feel we can’t fit in regular exercise or healthy eating. It means that when we suddenly think, ‘Oh, I need to lose weight, must get fit,’ we leap on to one diet or exercise system, do it for a brief stint then drop it. Back to square one, until we see another exercise class or new diet and try that for a bit.

But it is not the intense juice fasts nor the Burn Fat in 21 day programmes that work. Not for long anyway. If you want to feel good about your body and fitness all the time, not just three weeks in the summer holidays, or you really want to achieve a race PB or to get to that stage where you love running, it is about consistency.

This means exercising every day or five days out of seven and eating healthily most of the time. This doesn’t necessarily have to mean that you’re lifting heavy weights one minute, running the next, cycling another day (that’s just me!) . It’s about moving your body in some way.


Our current challenge community (free to join) included the goal of cycling every day in May. It didn’t have to be far or fast. You might think, ‘Oh, I don’t have the time for that.’ But this woman did, despite having two kids and a very busy career.

If there is one thing that I think Fitbitch has become a specialist at, it is helping women to achieve consistency. Just one of our four week courses helps you to create a habit, and you learn lots of new things about healthy eating, exercise and new types of workouts. Most importantly, it creates a LOVE of exercising and this is crucial. If you love something, you’ll find the time.

Fitbitch Camps – be inspired, be inspiring

Our original four week camps, launched way back in 2009 with just three women. We’ve come a long way since then, helping hundreds of women to lose weight, eat well and discover for the first time, a lifelong love of fitness. Not to mention a perkier butt.

Since launching on Hove seafront, we now offer small group, women-only camps in Queen’s Park, Brighton, Lewes & Worthing.

Fitbitch is not a boot camp in the traditional sense; it is an immersive experience which helps you to create a healthy lifestyle through small group training. You not only receive personalised fitness sessions, but a healthy eating plan and the chance to be part of a fantastic fitness community.

You don’t need to rely on will power when you enjoy doing something with people who you enjoy exercising with. This is the part of the secret to our continued success – creating the right environment for you to get the most out of our courses.

By the time you graduate from our two or four week courses, exercising and eating healthily will feel as natural as getting dressed in the morning.

From boxing to kettlebells, Pilates to yoga, every session is different (in fact, we even switch locations now and again – within reason- to make the most of the awe-inspiring spaces we train in).
