What is an IDEAL body fat percentage?

Looking at your fat percentage is a much more effective way of looking at getting healthy and in shape. But what percentage should you be aiming for?

Before every four week fitness camp, we offer our clients one-to-one personalised assessments where we not only assess their posture and core function but their body statistics too, from BMI to body fat, bone density to bottom width! We even take body pictures too, just so clients can see the effects that four weeks of exercise can and does have on their body tone (don’t worry, these are kept private – but they are very motivating and inspiring!).

But when it comes to body fat, everyone wants to know, just what is healthy?

Firstly, let’s not forget that some body fat is healthy. It helps process nutrients like vitamins A, K, and D, which assist in immune health, blood clotting, and the absorption of calcium. And it protects our organs as well as helps regulate our internal temperatures. It is the other type of fat, called storage fat, which is the result of a calorie surplus that we need to watch.

We are not sure how accurate the picture above is but it gives a good indication of how different percentages actually look on a female body. Below, is a chart which will help you to see where you stand in terms of healthy amounts of storage fat.

And let’s not forget, the storage of fat is a result of eating too many calories, not eating too much fat. Any excess calories whether it’s stored in fat or carbohydrates is turned to storage fat which has implications for your health, not just your waist and bottom line.

Not only will this course include lots of different types of classes, from boxing to kickboxing, yoga to Pilates, Barre work to butt work, you will also get to experience one of THE most beautiful times of the year to view spectacular sunrises and crispy mornings.

While everyone else might get the doldrums from the coming winter, this course will leave you flooded with feel-good endorphins to help you to stay on a healthy eating track. Includes an eating plan but no assessment.

Are men REALLY better at losing weight?

According to a recent study by Marks & Spencer, men are more successful at dieting with 23% saying they find it easy. So this January, we’re pitting our Dream Challenger, Bec Taylor against Rich Sage, a developer at Fitbitch HQ to see who will lose the most and we’re inviting YOU to join our gender diet battle too…

In the women’s corner, meet Bec Taylor, 36, who at 5ft 10 inches weighs 13 stone, 8 lbs with a BMI of 28.1. She has already lost over two stone with us but has hit a plateau and is looking to lose another two stone by April.

And in the men’s corner, meet Rich Sage, 32. He’s 6ft 1inches, weighs 16 stone and has a BMI of 29.3. He is currently already part of an online competition amongst developers around the world which you can join or follow on Twitter BiggestLoserPHP15

How do their measurements stack up?

Bec’s current BMI is s currently considered overweight. Rich’s current BMI is right on the margin between overweight and obese. Both need to reach a BMI of 25 to reach a healthy range.

So, how are they going to do it? Rich will be following on Online Detox & Define Workout and Diet Programme, £35, while Bec will be taking part in our Detox and Define Boot Camp course with the same diet.

I put my hands up and admit that I debated whether creating a weightloss competition was an OK thing to do. But it works – it works for The Biggest Loser and many other fitness challenges so why not this?

Detox & Define Online Workout & Diet, starts Jan 12th

So, how does it work?

You will receive a nourishing eating plan that focuses on protein with high fats, essential for the body, which will make this diet one to enjoy not endure.

The caveat is that you WILL have to cook from fresh but at Fitbitch and Hiit, we are firm believers in the maxim that to lose weight and maintain it you have to LOVE food. And that means cooking it fresh. The eating plan, 25 Day Define lasts for…well, 25 days.

In addition to the eating plan, you will be sent an online exercise programme, complete with videos and pictures to help explain form and technique.

These are simple workouts that can be done by EVERYONE no matter whether you’re a beginner or advanced. They work in less than 20 minutes per day as they are based on the scientifically proven TABATA system, working hard and intense for short bursts for maximum effect. You will be expected to work out every day.

The exercises are easy to follow but should you wish to go through any of the programme with one of our trainers beforehand to ensure correct technique this can be arranged. *
