If you fancy getting away from it all, it doesn’t have to cost the earth or take up hours. Reset and reboot with us on our one night wold camping adventure this June 14th…

You don’t have to go hiking up mountains in the Himalayas to have an adventure. One of my absolute favourite things to do is to go wild camping. There is nothing more freeing than packing a sleeping bag, jumping on my mountain bike and spending the night out under the stars.

Witnessing the sunset, hearing the birds singing, sheep bleating and watching the sun rise again the next morning is a truly magical experience. There are not many moments in life when you can simply just be, but wild camping gives us that unique connection to nature. So, settle down in your sleeping bag and join us for a mini adventure on our #fitbitch10in10 wild camping challenge.

Here is all you need to know about having a wild camping adventure:

Equipment

A sleeping bag, sleeping mat and layers to keep you warm through the night are the basic essentials, including a hat, thick socks and a couple of layers of clothing. Even on the warmest days it can get chilly in the middle of the night and keeping toastie head and toes ensures an easier night’s sleep.

If you have a mini camping stove that isn’t too bulky to carry, it is a luxury to be able to make hot drinks, but a flask of hot chocolate for the evening and another for coffee in the morning is also sufficient.

A bivvy bag provides protection from dew and damp but isn’t essential on a dry, warm night.

A phone/camera to capture the sunrise!

Don’t expect to get much sleep

Wild camping is an opportunity to witness the life around us, don’t expect to sleep as you would in your own bed. It is a wonderful experience sleeping under the stars and the peace of being outdoors at night is to be treasured. Expect a bit of discomfort, but it is worth it for the sunrise in the morning.

Take snacks

It’s nice to enjoy some delicious snacks on to munch and a Kindle so that you can read in the dark

A camping stove or flask of hot drinks

It is comforting to have a hot drink before bed and nice to wake up to a flask of coffee, most decent flasks will keep coffee hot until morning.

Leave no trace

Rule number 1 of wild camping is to leave no trace. Ensure to take all your rubbish with you and take only photographs.

Feeling inspired? Join Fitbitch Coach Amy on June 14th for a 10 mile off-road cycle (or we can give you the details and you can walk in and out of the wild camp) to enjoy a night  under the stars.

A great introduction to wild camping and a fun mini-adventure in the safety of a group with an experienced wild camper.

Most of our runners are based in Brighton and Hove where we train and coach a lot of our members. But with more GRTW communities spreading with our online training, we’ve created a series of events where we hope we can bring the community together wherever you are in the UK. And no, not all of them will just be in Brighton and Hove.
Join us in running this popular, off-road, very often muddy, and most definitely hilly 10 mile run based on the south coast in Peacehaven.
Tremendous fun, and friendly, our aim is to dress up and have fun.
Meet at Peacehaven Leisure Centre at 10.20am for fun warm up games and to check out everyone’s outfits.
This is part of our Girls Run the world Meet Up Races. You must pay for your own entry online via the race event http://www.seafordstriders.org.uk/Newsite/mince-pie-ten-mile/

Join us starting 18th April for the big transform – Spring Shape Up

April 13, 2017 at 11:58
Posted by Rachael Woolston

At the beginning of this month, we celebrated our 8th birthday, welcoming back 42 women, of which 90% have been with us since we started which means we must be doing something right!

It was amazing to see what these women have achieved, many who started with Fitbitch simply wanting to lose some weight after having a baby or to feel fitter. Now, many of them are running 5km or marathons, taking part in triathlons and obstacle races, all things that they never even thought that they wanted to do back on day one, feeling terribly unfit and apprehensive about signing up and what they’d got themselves involved in.

I launched Fitbitch as a way of offering busy women a one-stop course that provides everything you need to get fit, in shape and to have fun. No having to book a yoga session at one place, a running session at another; simply pay your course fee, turn up and every session is covered, meaning that you learn more about your body and what is possible in four weeks, than you ever could with a year of trying to make it to the gym.

Simplicity is key; if the only thing you have to worry about is getting out of bed and to the seafront or the park, then success is guaranteed. There are no ifs and buts and what if it doesn’t work. It works. Two or three times per week, for a month creates guaranteed results. In fact, last month we did a five session, one week course and women lost up to four pounds. For some, it’s about weight-loss, others, getting fit or getting outside. Whatever your goal, you get there. Our courses are a financial commitment but then we aren’t like other gyms or bootcamps. We offer a lot; support, camaraderie, expert coaches, eating plans, goal setting and help with creating a healthy habit that stays with you even if you only ever do one course with us. Plus, there are only 12 women per course so you know you will get personalised support and coaching.

So, why not join us this Tuesday April 18th for the start of our next four week course at Hove Seafront or Queen’s Park? (No sessions on bank holidays). Or Lewes (Monday, Weds, Friday) starting 8th May for three weeks.

Founder of Fitbitch, Rachael will be back to take Hove seafront while Tara will be taking Queen’s Park and Amy will be taking on Lewes early morning course.

Get fit, feel fabulous and get your mojo handed to you in bucketfuls!

5 ways to successfully reset your fitness mojo

February 17, 2016 at 1:14
Posted by Rachael Woolston

It can sometimes feel like winter hangs on forever, dragging you into a habit of  no exercise and overeating. Want to kickstart your fitness mojo? Here’s how…

Lara

If you like who you work out with, you won’t need willpower to get you out there getting fit

Get support

Willpower? Pah! If you get the right support in terms of a training partner, real or virtual, you don’t need to rely on willpower. Even the coaches here at Fitbitch, whose job it is to be fit, would struggle without the help of others. So, don’t feel useless if your decision to get out and exercise the night before crumbles into a pile of dust come morning. It’s NATURAL.

The trick is to arrange to meet someone, sign up to a running community or do a fitness class where you know and like the people you are going to be training with. And this last bit is crucial…you can go to a fitness class because you know it’s good for you, but you won’t keep going unless it’s fun and you like the people you’re working out with. It is as simple as that. So if you’ve tried exercises classes before and not managed to stick to it, it’s not because you don’t have any motivation, it’s just that you haven’t found the right one for you yet. Keep trying.

Sun Rise Energy

Ok, we know this might sound a bit hippy but the mornings are getting lighter with sunrise inching forward by up to two minutes per day. Nothing is more guaranteed to help you feel motivated than seeing the glowing sun pop into the sky.

Set yourself a goal

Whether it is something as simple as accomplish your first push up, lose four pounds, run a marathon or take on your first triathlon, having a goal to work towards which enables you to track your progress makes all the difference in staying motivated.  All the clients who book our courses are invited for a one to one session where we help them assess a target that means something to them. Although even those who don’t do our courses can be part of our free Challenge community.

Get yourself a habit

It sounds counterintuitive but the easiest way to get your mojo is to do some form of exercise every day. It will take an effort to begin but if you just schedule in sometime in your day, every day where you have to commit to doing something, you will soon find that you don’t feel right if you don’t.

Last month, we challenged our community to run every day in January and in February we set them a flexibility challenge to do every month. All of them have either children, a job, their own business or all of the above but they have accomplished it simply because they have committed to it and have scheduled it into their day, either straight out of bed, in between making the dinner and serving it or after the kids have gone to bed. Even if it’s just 10 squats per day for one month, you will feel the difference in motivation and your sense of achievement.

Sign up to  InstaIMG_1830-2gram

OK, so the whole fitness selfie thing has gone a bit overboard of late. But if you’re new to exercise or restarting, taking a photograph of your fitness workout every day or the meal that you
have made works as a fantastic visual journey of your progress. When you’re suffering from the doldrums (or a hangover) and are feeling like you don’t want to workout, look back over the month for a picture that inspires you and reminds you how you felt after your workout and it could be that one thing that helps you to lace on your trainers. (For inspiration you can follow us @fitbitchbootcamp)

Good luck! If you do need help with motivation, don’t miss our next four week course Fit Body Blitz starts February 22nd at Hove Lawns at both 6am or 7am.

Interested about courses in Queen’s Park, Worthing or Shoreham? Email us to get on our database and be the first to hear of our Summer launches. Our courses are only open to a maximum of 12 women per camp.
